The Village of Franklin Park (60131, 60160, 60164 zip codes), is located about 13 miles West from the Chicago loop. Its roughly 17.5K population occupies approximately 40% of the community with the rest dedicated to businesses.
Between the 1840’s & 1850’s, a significant number of farmers immigrated from Germany and settled in the area known today as Franklin Park. The 1870’s & 1890’s crossed the land with the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road tracks of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad), the Minneapolis, St. Paul, & Sault Ste Marie (Soo Line), and the Indiana Harbor Belt railroads.
In 1890, a real estate broker, Lesser Franklin, grew an idea of making this area a mix or residential and industrial community. He started buying land along the new railroad and aggressively advertising it in nearby Chicago.
On August 4, 1892 the community was incorporated as a village under the name given by Lesser – “Franklin Park”, and begun its dynamic growth to what it became today.
With its first business, an iron foundry established in 1900, Siegel, Cooper Company in 1905, Douglas Aircraft, Buick Motors, and hundreds of others, to hosting a variety of over 1200 business today. Strategical location of the Village, neighboring the O’Hare airport, being a railroad hub, and having an easy access to major highways, makes Franklin Park a desirable place for businesses to grow.
