Elk Grove Village (60007, 60009 zip codes), is situated 20 miles N-W of Chicago, with Itasca, Medinah, and Wooddale towards the South, Roselle and Schaumburg towards the West, Busse Woods and Arlington Heights on the North, Des Plaines and O’Hare Airport on the East.
Its close proximity to the highways and the airport, helped Elk Grove Village to establish industrial character with a large portion of its land dedicated to the largest in US consolidated industrial park.
The history of Elk Grove Village, like most of the Chicagoland areas, begins in early 1830, with Potawatomi Indians relocation to other parts of the country. The area welcomed its first settlers / farmers from New England in 1834. A decade later, German farmers begun arriving to what would eventually become Elk Grove Village. In fact, most of the local streets are named after those farmers.
Elk Grove Village experienced its biggest expansion in 50’s and 60’s, along with the rapid growth of the nearby O’Hare airport. The Village was incorporated in 1956, and its name was given after… guess what, the native elk species occupying surrounding forests. During this 50-60’s time period, it doubled in size, and by today, the original 1500 acres and 116 residents grew up to 7000 acres and around 35000 people. All that is a result of over 150 land annexations.
The relationship between industrial / residential community of Elk Grove Village has many benefits, with one the lowest property tax rates in N-W suburbs, thanks to almost 3600 businesses thriving here.
